Clothes
Antiques & Things
Excellent medium-sized mall with that elusive balance of stuff that’s not too junky, but also not too precious. Awesome bargain treasures are sprinkled throughout, as are seriously nice, not-cheap yet-reasonable furniture and other pieces.
Barrett House Attic
You know those thrift stores where everything is totally crappy and you have to dig for hours to find what you’re looking for? And even when you buy something, you’re probably going to have to reattach a button/work on a stain/deal with odor from the armpit? Or those thrift stores where you’re kind of dubious about how your money or donations are being used? Yeah, well, Barrett House Attic is the opposite of those.
Birdland the Hippie Store
High-quality items from masks to costumes from around the world hanging from every inch. Spend some time checking out the massive display case of body jewelry, or slip out back to see a true gallery of glass art (functional and non-).
Buffalo Exchange
It’s a chain, of course, but it’s a good one-stop for groovy used clothing. Prices are just a little higher than the average thrift store, but quality is also high. Dig around long enough and you’ll find some decent bargains.
Classic Century Square
Three huge floors with hundreds of booths and thousands of tchotchkes, furniture items and thingamabobs. Luka’s Funky Stuff (third floor) always has treasures waiting for discovery.
Free Radicals
We gotta hand it to these guys. A punk, goth & greaser-accessory shop might not seem Burque’s style, but they’ve held solid the last 4+ years, proving the interest. Buttons, band patches, body-mod accoutrements and everything in between pack out the small showroom. From the street can typically be seen a herse and some of the more amusing public signage this side of the Harold’s bathroom.
Gizmo Store
Surprisingly good bargains on army-supply & vintage fashions in a space that seems far larger inside than out. Serving the Albuquerque area for 63 years. The Gizmo Store, a family owned and operated retail outlet with a longtime presence in downtown Albuquerque, was founded in 1947 by three World War II veterans.
Guerrilla Graphix
Just relocated from their spot on Silver, Travis still runs the sweetest little shop for that custom tee or propaganda for the incombent revolution. Sprouted with good intentions and always willing to promote the local, this alternative apparel shop is fun and pushes the bounds of acceptable.
Kaufman's West Army & Navy Goods
Self-declared “the most fascinating store in NM”, we’re not ones to argue. Camping gear, hats, or a gun holster, Kaufman’s has, well… everything. Locally-owned for over 20 years, Kaufman’s has held the “NM State Body Armor Contract” for over a decade, so you know they’re authentic.
LA Underground
The hip-hop store. If you know the five elements and need a record, some skinny caps, or that obscure red for your latest piece, it’s the natural choice.
Larry's Hats
Larry Koch’s hat shop is a great place for your next bowler, fedora, cloche, or Panama hat. Expect great service in spite of the cramped quarters, and a good selection of women’s accessories. 21 years makes Larry’s an icon on Central.
Masks y Más
Just saying the name gets us giddy. Bursting with forget-ordinary desirables, Kiko and his skeleton (get it?) crew stock gorgeous Mexican folk art, genuinely clever t-shirts, luchador masks, hand-carved crosses, stickers, and commissions by local artists.
