Review
One of the coolest bars Danny’s ever encountered. Smack in the middle of downtown Burque, Anodyne offers a wide assortment of beers and the cocktails are generously poured.
Dimly lit, equipped with just enough pool tables, (pay by the hour), smart efficient bartenders, intelligent irreverent waitresses and a view the haps on central, the ‘dyne holds its own with any bar we’ve visited in NY, San Francisco, Paris or Khatmandu. The music is canned but cool – Augustus Pablo might follow the Pixies, Coltrane then Ojos del Brujo. With the extinction of Fat Chance, Dingo Bar, and Jacks, Anodyne is one of the last bastions of old school Burque cool.
Also a comfy place to sit and write, read or chat. Check out the Wolverine table and for you garden variety nerds, the Star Wars table. Tell Doug at the bar you like the Dallas Mavs or the Cowboys and you might have a new BFF. The chillest place in town to sit and have beer on any weekday evening, fun-but-jammed on the weekend, Anodyne’s among the cooled bars in the Southwest.
Mike’s got the door going in, so tip him on the way out. Paperback wall full of ridiculous pulp potboilers. Good, cheap pool. Royalty among bar jukeboxes (currently under repair). Good mix of hipster, college & older crowds.
